7/29/20
By: Cavan Malayter
This afternoon during his COVID-19 press conference Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker announced that there would be restrictions on youth, high school and adult recreational sports, which also included IHSA. A few hours after Governor Pritzker's press conference the IHSA came out and announced their new 2020-2021 sports calendar. The big headlines came when they moved Football into the spring sports season in addition with Girls Volleyball and Boys Soccer. However, IHSA announced that Football, Girls Volleyball and Boys Soccer would not be participating in the same IHSA season as the normal spring sports. Which came the next big part of their calendar is that there are now four sports seasons for 2020-2021 for IHSA. Fall, Winter, Spring (the traditional three IHSA sports seasons), and the fourth season, Summer.
The Fall Sports season begins on August 10th and will run through October 24th. Sports that will be allowed to participate in the fall season include, Girls Tennis, Boys Golf, Girls Golf, Boys Cross Country, Girls Cross Country, and Girls Swimming and Diving.
The Winter Sports season begins on November 16th and will run through February 13th. Sports that are scheduled to participate are Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Boys Swimming, Cheerleading, Dancing, Bowling and Girls Gymnastics.

The Summer Sports season begins on May 3rd and will run through June 26th. Sports that will participate in this fourth and new IHSA season will be, Baseball, Softball, Track and Field, Girls Soccer, Boys Volleyball, Lacrosse, and Boys Tennis.
These sports were put in certain seasons due in part to the risk they could cause to the athletes. The Illinois Public Health Department (IPHD) ranked the sports risk levels as either Lower, Medium and Higher. The (New) Fall Sports season includes teams who's risk according to IPHD and Governor Pritzker's guidelines are "Lower". For the full guidelines and table which includes every sport and their rating, see below.

WHAT WAS NEW THIS YEAR-LVHS SPORTS BROADCASTING CLUB SCHOOL YEAR IN-REVIEW (2019-2020)
5/6/20
By: Cavan Malayter (LVHS Sports Broadcasting President)
This past school year we made a lot of changes on the broadcast to make the viewing experience better for the parents, students and fans of Lake View High School's sports teams. Things such as expanded coverage of some sports teams, the first year covering new sports teams, and more. So, here are the list of the new things we did this year.
1. For the first time we introduced Graphics to the Broadcasts for the 1st Time.
During our summer meetings, we felt that in order to create the best broadcasts possible, that it would need to include a graphics package of some sort. We agreed that our number one priority was to add a score bug to the broadcasts and that included score, period and other essential information.
We are very fortunate that we got the resources to create these score bugs on our broadcasts. Not only that but we also added introduction graphics, as well as we added the ability to go to breaks. For us, all of these made our club's broadcasts more professional, and enhanced the viewing experience for our viewers, which is always our number one priority.
2. Expanded coverage on returning sports teams we've covered.
This year, we announced that we were expanding coverage of the three Lake View teams that we'd broadcasted a year ago. Those teams being the Football team, Girls Basketball and Baseball team. Football's coverage increased from 3 broadcasts in 2018 to 4 2019, plus interviews with players and coaching staff. Girls Basketball with 3 Broadcasts in 2018-19 up to 7 in 2019-20. Finally for the Baseball team we broadcasted 6 games up to a planned 19 broadcasts for their upcoming 2020 season.
3. New Coverage for 6 Lake View High School Sports Teams
Before the year began, we already knew that this had the possibility of being our biggest year so far (which it has by the way). We announced that we were going to be covering 6 new sports teams at the start of the school year. Those teams included Girls Volleyball which had 8 broadcasts, Boys Soccer which had 3 broadcasts and Boys Basketball which featured 9 broadcasts (as well as our first time covering the Battle of the Bridge Tournament hosted by Lane Tech and DePaul Prep). We also planned on covering another defending City Champion Girls Soccer, which we planned on having at least 3 Broadcasts plus any additional games added to the schedule. Boys Volleyball, which we had planned on having 6 broadcasts. The 6th additional team we covered, would've been Girls Softball, which we planned on having 6 broadcasts for as well. Meaning that Spring 2020 would've been our biggest broadcast season in club history.
4. Wednesday Night Showcase on our Instagram Live.

4. Wednesday Night Showcase on our Instagram Live.
When the Boys Basketball schedule was released their were 3 Wednesday Night home games, that we thought would be the perfect way to get more content across our other social media feeds besides Facebook Live, our normal location for all of our broadcasts. Knowing that we wouldn't have the normal Basketball commentators it would be the perfect time to create our new series on our Instagram Live page. The Showcase featured 3 Games, with 2 really close games and it was a lot of fun bringing our Broadcasts to a new social media platform.
